Lawang Sewu is an icon of the city of Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. It is located at Jl. Sekayu No. 160, Semarang District, Central Java.

'Located right in the center of Semarang city, the area is always crowded with tourists and Semarang residents themselves because of its unique charm, making Lawang Sewu a destination to be immortalized using a cell phone camera, which nowadays everyone has one, making it the main goal when visiting there.

In the Lawang area, many people have spread various stories, from history to mystical stories that have occurred in the Lawang Sewu area.

According to history reviewed by Wikipedia, Lawang Sewu was formerly an office building, more precisely used by the Dutch as an archive building for N.V (Nederland - Indische spoorweg maatspachapij).

Then now it has become an asset of PT KAI, this happened because of the struggle for assets at that time, which was originally NIS (Nederland - Indische spoorweg), which became an asset of KAI now, this was carried out by the Republic of Indonesia Railway Service (djakari).

According to Javanese mythology, the name Lawang Sewu means a building with a thousand doors.

The design of the building, which is still relatively well-maintained, actually only has 928 doors, with the doors being quite large and the tall windows adding to the historic impression, making it an icon of the city of Semarang to this day.

According to the history written on the information board, Lawang Sewu was built by architect Cosman Citroen, an architect who collaborated with architect J. F. Klinkhamer.

The initial construction was carried out in 1904 and completed in 1907, even then it was not completely finished, only partially finished in 1919, then used by NIS (Nederland - Indische spoorweg).

After the Japanese landed in 1942, Lawang Sewu was captured and converted into a prison. Even more ironically, the basement of the Lawang Sewu building was used by the Japanese to execute prisoners to death.

Lawang Sewu is famous for its mystical aura, this is because the underground room was once a silent witness to torture and even executions carried out by Japanese soldiers on prisoners at that time.

Lawang Sewu is an icon and a symbol of the city of Semarang. "But behind its history, there's much more, including a variety of local specialties, such as spring rolls. Perhaps we'll cover this in more depth in our next review."

'In its management, the city of Semarang continues to improve, which is carried out by the local government and also assisted every year by the central government, this is because the city of Semarang has a history that we should not just forget,
